Highly Fabulous Hair…Mask

Categories: Beauty, Health

Highly fabulous hair doesn’t always come naturally. Want to give your locks a boost? Try a deep conditioner. These super moisturizing hair masks infuse moisture into every hair type and pump up your hair’s shine. Want to do it flawlessly? I will take you through the steps of a killer hair mask.

First, pick out the right hair mask for you. If you have strands with special needs, look for hair masks specifically made for your hair type. Some packages will say: made for split ends, oily, or frizzed out hair. You can’t always be sure this will be the best mask for you but it’s a good bet. Natural hair masks are also a great option for every hair type. Natural oils like olive oil or coconut oil work wonders on your hair. They add a sleek shine and cost much less than professional products.

Once you’ve chosen your hair mask, prep your hair by washing it normally then toweling dry. Your hair should be damp when you put on your deep conditioner. Apply a thick layer of deep conditioner or natural oil to your hair. If you have oily or fine hair, apply your mask an inch below your roots or just to the ends of hair. Too much conditioner on your hair could weigh hair down or make it oily. Keeping conditioner away from the roots gives the ends of your strands much needed moisture but doesn’t weigh your hair down from the roots. For thick hair, hair masks should be applied in layers. Applying your hair mask all at once may leave some spots condition-less. Separate your hair into two or three sections. Apply your hair mask one section at a time to thoroughly coat your mane. This lets you reach every luscious lock and coat hair evenly.

Give your hair mask time to soak. Wrapping your hair in a plastic shower cap or plastic wrap enhances the effect of your conditioner. This traps body heat and allows you to add a little more heat overtop of your wrap. If you want to amp up your deep conditioning mask even more, wrap a warm damp towel around the plastic cap on your head. Heat opens the cuticle of your hair and gives you an even deeper conditioning.

Let your hair mask soak for 30 minutes. Deep conditioning treatments need to be left on your hair longer than daily conditioners to give your hair a chance to soak in the vitamins and fats that improve your hair’s appearance and condition. Once your deep conditioner has soaked in, rinse or wash it out. This gets rid of the excess conditioner and leaves hair soft, shiny and ready to style.

Now that you’re a deep conditioning believer, make it a habit. Any type of hair can benefit from a good deep conditioning. Very damaged or dry hair should be given a good deep conditioning treatment once a week or more. Other hair types don’t need this level of treatment. Most hair only needs a good deep treatment once a month. Regular conditioning should keep your hair healthy in between hair masks.
